TEAM’s focus in Peru is in the city of Arequipa. More than 7,000 feet up into the Andes Mountains in southern Peru, Arequipa is a city of more than a million people. It is known as “The City of the Eternal Blue Sky” because of its beautiful weather and also as “The White City” because of the white volcanic rock that is used in much of the construction there. In Arequipa, TEAM is working to establish El Camino, a church in a middle class neighborhood. We have recently called a Peruvian pastor to join our leadership team and are looking forward to incorporating him and his wife into the ministry of the church.

The emphasis of El Camino is making disciples, training leaders, and church multiplication. For this reason, El Camino has a ministry in Ciudad de Dios (which means “City of God”), a poor neighborhood on the northern outskirts of the city where we hope to see a church started in the near future. There is also a close relationship with a church plant in Characato, a very traditional town at the southern end of the Arequipa Valley. In addition to these current ministries, TEAM Peru has the vision to begin a second middle-class church in an area of Arequipa where there is presently no Evangelical church.
